RINALDI Antonio (probably 1710-1794)
An architect. An Italian. Worked in Russia since 1751 (according the other data sources - since 1752). During 1756-1790 (according the other data sources - during 1754-1784) was the court architect.The transition from baroque and rococo with their rich plastic and sophisticated decoration details to the restraint calm and clarity of classicism was reflected in Rinaldi's constructions: the buildings in Oranienbaum (Lomonosov nowadays) - the Palace of Peter III, the Chinese Palace,the Sliding Hill Pavilion; the Palace in Gatchina; the Pavilions in Tsarskoye Selo (Pushkin today); the Marble palace, Vorontsov's Dacha (week-end cottage), the hemp warehouses of Tuchkov Buyan (1764-1774) in Petersburg. All the constructions of this architect are famous with the skillful inner decoration, masterly selected materials and sculpture and painting organically included into the interior decoration. The verst-posts, marking the distance in versts to Tsarskoye Selo ( Pushkin today) and Moscow were erected according Rinaldi's projects. Spent the last years of his life in Italy. |
