MONTFERRAND Avgust Avgustovich (Auguste Ricard de Montferrand) (1786-1858)
An architect, ampire representative. Frenchman. Studied in Polytechnical School (since 1806) and in the studios of Sh.Perrier and P.F.L.Fontena in Paris. Since 1816 lived in St.-Petersburg, where he designed the St.Isaac's Cathedral and Alexander Column, the significant constructions for the city center ensembles formation process, house of Lobanov-Rostovsky, house of Gagarina, the wing of the own house ( Montferrand's). He participated in the reconstruction of the Catherine Park, having designed the number of entertainment pavilions with the unusual constructional solutions in it (1820-s). Petrovsky, Fieldmarshals and Malachite Halls in the Winter Palace were decorated according the projects of Montferrand. He was the author of the staircase and Rotonda Hall in the Hermitage (1830-s).
